After weeks of deliberations, the Congress party has announced the names for the upcoming Kerala state Assembly elections. The list was revealed by KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran at a press conference in Delhi. Announcing the names, he said, “The people of Kerala are demanding a change in governance. The Congress candidates are strong enough to take on both the CPM as well BJP in the state, and will ensure sustainable governance in Kerala that will make the people’s life much better.”
He added that the list has been considered after deliberations with local committee members as well as senior national leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. The list includes people from various age groups as well as young names. There are 46 candidates in the age group of 26 to 50, 22 candidates in the 51-60 age group, 15 names in the 60-70 group, and only three names in the above 70 group. More than 55 per cent of the list is new faces.
The Congress will contest from 92 seats, and they have already announced the names of 86 candidates. The remaining six — Kalpetta, Nilambur, Vattiyoorkavu, Kundara, Thavanoor, and Pattambi — will be announced later. Moreover, ending the debate surrounding Nemom, Vadakara MP K Muraleedharan will contest for the party.
