On Thursday, in a three-hour encounter with security forces, four suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed and two police officials injured in a gunfight at Ban Toll Plaza near Nagrota on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
Today, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned an official of the Pakistan high commission in Delhi to protest against the recurring terrorism acts against India. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to praise the security forces’ bravery.
He added, “Our security forces have once again displayed utmost bravery and professionalism. Thanks to their alertness, they have defeated a nefarious plot to target grassroots level democratic exercises in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Later, the PM held a meeting with Union Minister Amit Shah, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and others after the probe indicated that the terrorists were planning “something big” on the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Other than a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, a digital mobile radio manufactured by Micro electronics, a Pakistani company, was also recovered from the terrorists, said a senior government official.
The official said, “The message exchanged on the device show that the intruders were continuously in touch with their handlers in Pakistan. One of the messages on the device said, “Kaha phnche kia sorate hal hai koi mushkil to nahi? (Where have you reached? Hope you are not in any trouble?)
Among the other things recovered from the terrorists include shoes and medicines manufactured in Pakistan. A smartphone Q mobile made in Pakistan, a GPS device and a wireless set was also found.
The official said, “The four terrorists crossed over from International Border in Jammu and reached a pre-designated spot on the national highway south of Samba district. They were on their way to Kashmir Valley when the truck was intercepted at the toll plaza.”
The dead terrorists are yet to be identified. Also, the official said, “The plan was to disrupt the DDC (District Development Council) elections. They had 11 AK-47 rifles and over 7kg of RDX on them. The plan was to do something spectacular.”
Meanwhile, today in another alleged ceasefire violation incident along LOC, an Indian army soldier was killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The soldier has been identified as Havildar Patil Sangram Shivaji.
