On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has been moved to Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after testing positive for Covid-19 on December 18.

According to reports, Rawat was shifted to AIIMS after developing a chest infection. The chief minister was initially in-home quarantine after testing Covid positive but was admitted to Doon Hospital on Sunday after complaining of mild fever.

According to agency reports, Rawat is said to have developed pneumonia and his health began worsening. Doctors detected infection in his chest, and after consulting with doctors in Delhi, Rawat was shifted to AIIMS for further examinations. The Uttarakhand CM is currently in the AIIMS trauma centre. A team of doctors is closely monitoring his health.

Rawat is the third sitting chief minister to test positive for Covid-19. Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was the first to test positive for Covid on July 25. After Chouhan, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa tested positive in August. Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah also tested positive for the virus in August.

Other than chief ministers, over 30 politicians have tested positive for Covid-19 in India so far. These include Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, Dharmendra Pradhan, DV Sadananda Gowda, Gajendra Shekhawat, and New Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, to name a few.
