Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who had been admitted with post-Covid complications, since November 2, passed away today. The 86-year-old had been admitted to Guwahati Medical College following his Covid-19 positive status on August 25 and was later discharged on October 25.
The three-time CM had been under critical condition since his condition worsened on Saturday with a multiple organ failure. News agencies reported that he was put on ventilation following difficulty in breathing, and doctors had performed an emergency kidney procedure, as he couldn’t pass urine. The doctors had informed that the Congress leader had been in “very very critical” condition as his blood pressure fluctuated and condition destabilised. Assam Health Minister Himant Biswas Sharma had been at the hospital alongside Gogoi’s son Gaurav Gogoi.
Politicians, former ministers, lawmakers and other powerful people in the state had been at the hospital waiting on Tarun Gogoi’s condition. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had flown to Guwahati from Delhi, cancelling his prior meetings and appointments, to be with Gogoi and his family.
