A woman in Palakkad, Kerala, allegedly murdered her son and then called up the local police to report the incident.
Thirty-year-old Shahida called up her local police station early Sunday morning. She called to report that she had murdered her six-year-old son Aamil as a sacrifice to 'Allah'; she apparently had an inner call from the Almighty. The police team, headed by Assistant Sub Inspector George Harris, which was deputed to her house found Shahida waiting for them at the gate with blood-stained clothes. According to police officials, Shahida had an injury on her hand. Upon reaching inside, the police found the child lying dead in the bathroom with his throat slit. The police have taken Shahida into custody and have sent the child’s body for post-mortem examination.
A teacher at a local madrasa, Shahida is currently three months pregnant. Her husband, Sulaiman, a former NRI, works as an autorickshaw driver. Sulaiman and two of their other children were sleeping in an adjoining room when Shahida killed Aamil. Shahida had apparently woken up Aamil in the morning, taken him to the bathroom, tied his legs up before killing him. Sulaiman and the other two children were supposedly asleep and unaware of the incident.
According to neighbours, she had asked for the Janamaithri police station's phone number from one of them on Saturday.
As per the FIR filed at the Palakkad South Station, the Shahida said she murdered her son as a sacrifice to 'Allah', in order to please him. She has been booked under section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code. More sections will be added during the course of the investigation.
This incident comes nearly two weeks after two sisters were supposedly murdered by their highly educated parents in Chittor, Andhra Pradesh, in what police said appeared to be a case related to superstition.
The parents are said to have killed their daughters, Alekkya and Sai Divya believing that they would resurrect after their death. They believed that their daughters would come back to life due to spiritual powers as the Kaliyuga ends turning into the Satya Yuga.
