The Great Indian Kitchen, featuring Suraj Venjaramood and Nimisha Sajayan in pivotal roles, is set to be remade in Tamil and Telugu by director Kannan. According to sources, the project is likely to go on floor at Karaikudi from March.

Rumour in tinsel town is that award winning actress Aishwarya Rajesh has been roped in to play the female lead in the film’s remakes. Aishwarya, who has starred in films such as Kaaka Muttai, Jomonte Suvisheshangal and World Famous Lover, received this year’s Kalaimamani Award, the highest state award in Tamil Nadu given to artistes each year. Director Kannan, who is known for movies such as Jayam Kondan, Kanden Kaadhalai, Settai, Vandhaan Vendraan, Boomerang and Santhanam, is said to be looking for an apt male lead for The Great Indian Kitchen. Pattukottai Prabhakar has been roped in to pen the dialogues, while PG Muthaiah will be cranking the camera. Sources say that an official announcement on the rest of the cast and crew will be out shortly.

The Great Indian Kitchen was written and directed by Jeo Baby. After television channels and streaming giants rejected the movie, it released on Neestream, a Malayalam OTT platform on January 15. The film received positive reviews from film critics as well as the audience for its well- written characters and thought- provoking narrative that brought patriarchal politics and systemic gender subjugation under an uncomfortable scanner.
